Bedridden adults often use diapers as it is an easy option for them. However, for the skin to remain rash-free and healthy, it needs to be kept dry and clean. Hence, an adult who is undergoing treatment for paralysis might need proper skin care and special therapist

Whether you are a female nurse for homecare or someone who is looking after a bedridden loved one, the process of changing diaper can be daunting. However, once you start performing the procedure for several times, it will get easier.

You can even look for nurses for home, if you are not comfortable with changing the diaper.

Supplies needed to change a diaper

  • Wet and dry wipes
  • Proper size of diaper
  • Vinyl or latex gloves of your size
  • Skin protection cream suggested by Avanta Healthcare
  • Trash bag
  • Perineal cleanser
  • Disposable or washable bed protection pads

How to change the adult diaper?

You have to change the diaper as soon as it is soiled or wet. If you cannot pay proper attention to this, then call for a home nurse in Bangalore.

  • Let the patient lie on the bed and you undo the diaper tabs.
  • Ask the patient to turn on their side and guide them by the hips instead of shoulders or arms.
  • After that, bend their knees towards their chest.
  • Slide the diaper inwards and tuck any mess inside while you slide. Also pull it out.
  • After you have removed the diaper, roll it and throw it in the trash bag.
  • Wipe the area from front to back with toilet paper or wipes. Do not forget the folds and later, dry the skin.
  • Then, turn the patient on the other side, and clean the skin of that area.
  • Let the skin breathe for a while. Meanwhile, change your gloves.
  • Let the patient be sideways while you place the bed protection pad. Fold a part and place it near the patient’s back and straighten the other half on the sheet. Even experts at Avanta homecare recommend doing this for easy after-cleaning.
  • Then, apply the protection cream on the buttocks and position the diaper properly while tucking it under the hips.
  • Now, roll the patient on to their back and pull the diaper through the legs.
  • Close the diaper with the tabs.
  • Again, roll the patient slightly on the other side to pull out the bed protector.
  • Remove your gloves and dispose them. Sanitize your hands.

If you have a bedridden adult at your place, you must give them treatment for physiotherapy. This might help with the movement of their muscles.

Also, remember to have a good attitude with patients while changing their diapers. If you are someone who cannot keep their calm, then hire an experienced female nurse for homecare.
